An inadvertent expatriate blogger behind Signal Glimmer Basin

Hi there, I'm Oliver
I'm a project manager, a parent, and an expat based in Zurich, Switzerland.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter living abroad.
Origins
Relocating to Switzerland wasn't part of the long-range plan. Like many expatriate moves, it started as a job opportunity and quickly grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, fresh expectations. Daily tasks felt tougher than they should.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of hands-on learning. But gradually, routines took shape. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Built Signal Glimmer Basin
Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or surface-level tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family perspective.
This site exists to bridge that gap — practical advice grounded in real life in Switzerland.
What This Site Covers (And Does Not)
This site CONTAINS:
- Hands-on experience from living in Switzerland
- Centered on family life and day-to-day realities
- Updated whenever a real change occurs
This site DOES NOT:
- A tourism authority resource
- Paid-review platform
- A broad travel blog
Looking Forward
Our stay in Switzerland goes on, and the learning journey continues. As long as the information remains helpful, I will keep recording what we learn.
If you have questions about family life in Zurich or anywhere in Switzerland, don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Oliver
